64,000 biscuits.
Hundreds of volunteers.
6,300 prisoners reached with the message of Jesus!
April saw 64,000 homemade biscuits make their way into prison cells across Victoria in a move to share God’s love with every inmate this past Easter. Volunteers from across the state shared their recipes and baking skills for the Easter Biscuit Bake, which gifts each prisoner a bag of biscuits alongside a card sharing the powerful message of hope we have through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Each year after the Bake, we receive numerous letters from inmates, thanking our incredible volunteer bakers, packers and distributors and sharing how touched they are that strangers would think of them at this time of year.
Dear Prison Fellowship,
My name is Steve*. I’m writing this letter after going through the Easter biscuit packs you recently dropped off at our prison – which were delicious may I say, and very appreciated and thoughtful.
I have done a few years this sentence, shamed to say I’ve been in and out a few times. During those times, I’ve noticed how your organisation goes out of their way to show kindness, compassion and most of all no-strings-attached God-fearing care for your fellow humankind. I thank you, each and every one of your members and all connected to your organisation.
I happened to have read the card that came along with the cookies, and there were some things I would like to know how to be involved in. One being The Prisoner’s Journey… which could lead me to a brighter future hopefully.
Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon.
Steve*

“Jesus took special notice of the marginalised, and prisoners are certainly on the margins of our society. As a follower of Jesus, this is one way I can do the same. I enjoy baking and I love the idea of being able to encourage people who are in need. It’s a tangible way to show we care. My husband, Keith, who visits prisoners with Prison Fellowship, has told me how much the biscuits are appreciated. Easter is the time that God gave us the gift of salvation through Jesus, so what better time to give a gift?”
Susan Moyle, a volunteer baker who has baked an incredible 1,000 biscuits a year for prisoners since the inception of the Biscuit Bake.

Never underestimate the power of every ‘little’ thing you do to share the love of God with others. Very often these ‘little’ things have a very big impact!
