This poem was written by Rowan*, a former inmate who very clearly remembers the joy and freedom he experienced when he accepted Christ’s forgiveness and grace shown at the Cross.

I remember all the days when the pleasures of sin,
Was all that I craved, with no joy within,
Was hopelessly lost and burdened with sin,
I remember the day when Jesus came to stay.
I will not forget the day when on my knees I prayed,
When Jesus forgave me when I confessed my sins,
I asked him in to be my Lord and King,
I remember the day, my sins were washed away.
I will also remember how much my freedom cost,
To bear my sin and shame on that wooden cross,
To redeem, to set me free from my iniquities,
Freed from the grip of sin, and now I’m free indeed.
I will always remember when Jesus came my way
That my sins are forgiven and I’m going to heaven,
I will also remember to pray every day,
To say thank you, Lord Jesus, that you came to stay.
I remember the days when sin had its way,
I remember the day he took them away,
I remember the day when Jesus came to stay,
I’ll remember today to let him have his way.
